Organize Your Family

I truly believe organization is a very important part of life, for me when I have things organized I feel more productive and I have a sense of peace knowing where to find things, a couple weeks ago I admitted That I'm a full blown organization freak

If you want to start organizing your personal life, filing is a great place to start.  If you don't already have a filing system set up the task can be daunting, but in my opinion it's worth it and much better then having  piles of paper around your house.

Once you have your personal filing set up you can look at moving on to bigger projects like maybe your business.  You want to organize your belongings one step at a time because you don't want to bite off more then you can chew and become overwhelmed by the process.  The other problem is, when you bite off more then you can chew you just want to get it done and you don't take the time to go through your things thoroughly and you run the risk of tossing something you need or want, so don't rush, enjoy the process.

The first step to getting organized is to go through all those piles of paper and sort them based on topics like bills, taxes, receipts, etc.  Get rid of the junk, there is no reason to hang on to things that aren't important, you don't need to keep bills from years ago so go ahead and chuck them (or shred them if they have personal information on them).

The next step would be to get yourself some file folders, label them according to the piles you've organized, that way things are easy to find when you go looking for something.

When hubby and I first got married we were able to organize our important papers in a small filing box but as the years went on and we collected more documents and we needed more space.  Now we have a larger filing cabinet and have plenty of room for growth and it works well for us.  The great part of this process is you can really spend as much or as little money as you'd like, your can make your filing pretty or practical, it really depends on what works best for you.

I have one very important piece of information I need to share with you....once you have your filing system all set up, don't start that pile of paper again!  When you get papers that need to be filed go to your filing system and get those bad boys in their assigned folder right away!  After you've done the initial organization, the hard work, staying organized is so much easier.

Happy Organizing!!!  I would love to hear about an organization project you've done lately.
